À Pondichéry, au sud de l'Inde, une communauté de gitans sédentarisés est en pleine mutation.
Discriminés à cause de leur culture et de leur mode de vie marginal, ils vivent quotidiennement le rejet et l'humiliation.
Depuis qu'une petite ONG locale, SAMUGAM, déploie des efforts considérables pour les aider à s'intégrer — en leur donnant un accès aux soins, à la nourriture, au transport, à l'éducation, à l'emploi — et lutte corps et âme pour qu'ils puissent trouver un peu de considération dans la société, les gitans modifient progressivement leur mentalité et leur mode de vie.
L'une d'entre eux, Kowsalya, est la toute première à avoir obtenu son baccalauréat. Elle termine ses études d'infirmière. Studieux, les autres élèves suivent sa trace, dans l'espoir que le regard de la société indienne évolue à leur égard et leur rende enfin leur dignité.
En janvier 2019, Bruno Savio, directeur de SAMUGAM FONDATION - JALY HOME a reçu le "Prix national du meilleur établissement de soins aux enfants en Inde" des mains du Président de l'Inde Ram Nath Kovind.

In Pondicherry, in the south of India, a community of sedentary gypsies is changing.
Discriminated because of their culture and their marginal way of life, they daily endure denial and humiliation.
Since a small local NGO called SAMUGAM, has been working hard to help them integrate - by giving them access to care, food, transportation, education, employment - and its vibrant fight to help them find a little consideration in society, gypsies are gradually changing their mentality and their way of life.
One of them, Kowsalya, is the first one who has got a bachelor's degree. She is now completing her nursing studies. Studious, the other students follow her trail, hoping that the outlook of the Indian society will evolve towards them and finally restore their dignity.
In January 2019, Bruno Savio, director of SAMUGAM FONDATION - JALY HOME received the "National award for the best child care institution in India" from the hands of the President of India Ram Nath Kovind.
